1979 Mustang Club of America Eastern Nationals

May 25-27, 1979

Eastgate Center, Chattanooga, Tennessee

This MCA Eastern National was hosted by the Scenic City Mustang Club in Chattanooga, TN.  This was my very FIRST MCA National Mustang show as a participant instead of a spectator.  The 1st Tennessee Regional Group met on I-81 just south of Kingsport and we all drove down together.  Those were the days!!  Nothing like seeing a 20+ vintage Mustangs rolling down the highway together!!  And I'm not talking just coupes...we had some serious muscle in this Mustang train...like a 1969 Boss 429, not one but TWO 1971 Boss 351's, big block Mach 1's, and more.

You'll have to excuse the picture quality...remember this was 1979 and I was 16 years old...taking pictures with a C-110 instamatic camera...not a 35mm Nikkon or Cannon.

1965 Coupe Class and maybe some 1964-1/2's too.

1966 Coupe and 1966 Fastback Classes

1967-68 Mustang Fastback Class.  If you had one, this was your class.  This was long before Concours Trailered, Concours Driven, Thoroughbred, Unrestored, etc classes!!  Stock Classes and Modified Classes were the only distinctions. Yes, that's my unrestored 1968 Mustang GT Fastback being judged.  I won 2nd Place in this class!!
This beautiful white 1968 Mustang GT Fastback belonged to Mike J. Xiques from Wescoville, PA. This fully restored Sunlit Gold Metallic 1968 Mustang Fastback belonged to Freddy Caheely from Lafayette, GA.  He won 1st place in this class.
You can see Mike Bacon's black 1968 Mustang GT fastback in this picture.  He won 3rd place in this class. 1971-73 Coupe Class sitting next to the 1965-66 Shelby Class.

1966 Hertz Shelby GT350H...wonder if I could rent it today? 1967-70 Shelby Class... check out the GT500KR

1969-71 Boss Class... who's Boss 429.....

Here's Bobby and Ronnie Carroll's two 1971 Boss 351's.

Bill Davis's 1969 Boss 429... let's look under the hood... OK, the first one who says this looks like a 4.6 is gonna get smacked...

Here's the 1965-73 Modified Class.

And speaking of being smacked, what were they thinking??  This is a 1966 Fastback with a 1977 Olds or Buick nose on it...I can't really tell.
